“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. . . . But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.” Psalm 3:1-3 NASB

King David found himself running for his life. His world was in turmoil with many old adversaries and foes rising up against him and with violence filling the land. Even his own son, Absalom, was leading a rebellion to overthrow him. David could have easily been overcome with despair. Yet David turned to the Lord as his only hope. He declared that the Lord was his shield of protection. David’s head was not hung low in desperation and despair but lifted up to face head on the horrible events of the day because God was his salvation, strength, and shield.

Lord Jesus, these are troubled times in my country which could easily cause me to despair. But I place my confidence and hope solely in You, my Savior and Sustainer.
