“Then the earth shook and quaked; And the foundations of the mountains were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry. . . . He bowed the heavens also, and came down.” Psalm 18:7,9a NASB

In great poetic figurative imagery, David describes God's response to his plea for help. The majesty and power of the Lord is described as He comes down from Heaven. God demonstrates His anger at evil by shaking the earth and thundering in the heavens with dark storms. The imagery is terrifying and awesome in its powerful wording. This passage is reminiscent of the Lord coming down on Mount Sinai in Exodus 19. There the mount was filled with dark clouds, smoke, thunder and lightning, as the mountain quaked violently with the presence and the voice of God.

Lord Jesus, I am amazed at Your mighty power and Your majesty. I am thankful for Your coming down from Heaven to help me and all Your people who cry out to You.
