“The cords of death encompassed me, And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me. The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord.” Psalm 18:4-6a NASB

David reflects on the times in his life when death seemed to be so close to overwhelming him. The cords of death had encompassed and entangled around him. They were like ropes coiling and wrapping him in its snares and traps where there seemed to be no escape from death. The ungodly and evil around him tormented and terrified him causing him to shiver in terror. He felt trapped with no way to escape but by death ending his life. In his distress his only hope was to call upon God to deliver him.

Lord Jesus, at times troubles and death seem to be snaring me in its traps. I am thankful that I can find help and strength to face this day in You my God.
