“For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” Matthew 6:14-15 NASB
God’s forgiveness is not earned, but it is a gift of mercy and grace given by God. A believer has experienced God’s mercy and grace through the forgiveness of his sins. Therefore he must show other people this same mercy and grace by forgiving them of what they have done. One’s willingness to forgive others demonstrates God’s forgiveness in his own life. A person who does not forgive others proves he has not received or understood God’s forgiveness in his life. Believers must be willing to forgive because God has forgiven them.
Lord Jesus, You have forgiven me so very much! Help me to forgive others for what they have done to me and thus be a witness of Your grace, mercy, and love.
