“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 NASB

Jesus concludes this section dealing with righteousness that goes beyond action to attitude and character by stating a summary statement. The goal of a righteous person is to be perfect. The Greek word translated perfect means "having attained the end or purpose, to be complete." This perfection is a process that develops a complete or mature, righteous kingdom servant with the character and behavior like that of the Father. This righteous believer is fully obedient to God’s Word and totally committed to living by God’s standard.

Lord Jesus, I desire to be guided by Your Word and to live by Your standard of righteousness. Help me to become all that You planned for me to be as I make this journey through life.
