Fear and Great Joy
Matthew 28:6a-8

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. . . . And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.” Matthew 28:6a-8 NASB

The unknown, the unprecedented events, and the uncertainties of life and death always bring out fear and anxiety. There at the tomb, early on that first Easter morning, the women were afraid. The events of the past few days, the crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus, had caused great fear among the disciples. Now the women were greeted by an angel with the news that Jesus was risen from the dead. Their emotions ran high with fear and perplexing bewilderment mingled with great joy.

Lord Jesus, these days bring fear of the unknown and a reminder of great joy for You have conquered sin and death. Let me revel in the great joy of the Risen Savior!
