Indifference and Apathy

“So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Christ would be born. ‘In Bethlehem of Judea,’ they told him, ‘because this is what was written by the prophet.” Matthew 2:4-5 CSB

The mere mention of the name Jesus Christ often brings three drastically different reactions. The second reaction found in this passage was an expression of indifference and apathy with a lack of interest displayed by the priests and scribes. These religious leaders knew the facts, presented by prophets, that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem. Their great religious knowledge did not progress into faith but eventually expressed the same type of hostility and rage as King Herod.

Lord Jesus, help me not to be indifferent by just learning the cold facts of Scripture. Instead help me to have a warming and growing faith that leads to action expressed in grace and love.
