“He replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.’” Luke 11:28 NIV

The first training exercises or discipline the believer must practice to become spiritually fit is to spend time in the Bible. Jesus stated the importance of hearing and obeying the Word of God by declaring that the person will be blessed who hears and obeys. This verse, along with many others, stresses the necessity of studying God’s Word. The believer needs to have a consistent diet of the Bible by hearing it preached and taught and by reading and studying it diligently. All this spiritual food then becomes the energy and motivation one needs to obey all that the Bible teaches.

Lord Jesus, I long to be physically and spiritually fit. Guide me as I hear, read, and study the Bible so that I may put it into practice in my daily life.
