“There was a certain priest named Zacharias, . . . and he had a wife . . . and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. . . . and they were both advanced in years.” Luke 1:5b-7 NASB

Zacharias is a minor character in the story of Christ’s birth. He was an old priest who served the Lord faithfully. Luke writes that he and his wife, Elizabeth, were both righteous in God’s sight. They followed and obeyed the Lord’s commands. They humbly served God all their lives. Even though they were advanced in years, God was able to use them in a great way to announce the coming the Savior.

Lord Jesus, as I grow older, help me to be righteous and to walk daily with you. Help me faithfully obey Your commands found in the Bible.
