“A voice of one crying out: Prepare the way of the LORD in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert. Every valley will be lifted up, and every mountain and hill will be leveled; the uneven ground will become smooth and the rough places, a plain.” Isaiah 40:3-4 HCSB

In ancient times the preparation for a great ruler’s visit would include making a road passable and smooth. Likewise, preparation for the coming of the Lord must be made by preparing one’s life and heart. All obstacles and obstructions that would hinder one from hearing, seeing, and honoring the Lord must be removed. The four Gospels described John the Baptist as the voice crying in the wilderness and calling for all people to prepare for the coming of Christ.

Lord Jesus, the Christmas season reminds me to prepare for Your coming. Help me to remove anything that would hinder me from honoring and glorifying You.
