The Helmet of Salvation
Ephesians 6:17a
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6:17 ESV
The helmet of a Roman soldier was designed to protect his entire head from the blows of the enemies’ weapons. The believer is likewise protected from the enemy by the helmet of salvation found in Christ. He has been saved from the penalty of sin, is being saved from the power of sin, and will be saved from the presence of sin. With the assurance of this salvation, the believer can stand firm in the battle against evil. A helmet also protects the mind. With a renewed mind that is set on the things of the Spirit, the believer’s thoughts will be guided by Christ.
Lord Jesus, I trust in You and You alone for my salvation. Protect and guide my thoughts to keep me focused on You, Your mercy and grace.
