The Belt of Truth
Ephesians 6:14a
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,” Ephesians 6:14 ESV
Paul begins detailing the spiritual armor with the belt of truth. The Roman soldier’s belt or girdle was a large six inch leather strap that went around his waist. It was designed to be the foundation that held other pieces of the armor in place. The foundation for the believer’s armor is truth found in Jesus and in the Word of God, the Bible. He must stand firm, entrenched in this truth. The believer must also be a person of truth, walking in integrity, honesty, sincerity, faithfulness, and truthfulness.
Lord Jesus, You are the foundation of my life. Being firmly grounded in Your Word, help me to walk each day in truth with a character that displays integrity and truthfulness.
