Love and Respect
Ephesians 5:33

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” Ephesians 5:33 ESV

Summarizing, Paul restates that the husband is to love his wife just as himself for they are one in Christ. This agape love is an act of the will, not based on emotions. It seeks the very best, the highest good, for the other person. It is a self-sacrificing, self-giving love that nourishes and cherishes the one loved. The wife is to respect her husband, giving him honor, reverence, esteem, and admiration. Love and respect should flow both ways in a marriage founded on grace and faith in Christ.

Lord Jesus, may my marriage be filled with love and respect as we abide in Your grace.
