Love Unites
Ephesians 5:28
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” Ephesians 5:28 ESV
Christ’s love for the church is the example, the model, of what the husband’s love for his wife ought to be like. Christ’s desire for the church to be made pure and holy meant that He was willing to give His own life on the cross for the church. A husband’s desire and longing for his wife means that he will do all he can for her, seeking her best, loving her just as he loves himself. Marriage unites a man and a woman into one flesh so that they are intimately bonded and united physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually into one body.
Lord Jesus, having Your great love as a model, help me to love my spouse in a way that unites and bonds us to one another.
