The Ascended King
Ephesians 4:8

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“Therefore it says, ‘When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.’” Ephesians 4:8 ESV

Historically a victorious king would ride in a great victory parade into his capital city, bringing both the spoils of riches and the host of prisoners and soldiers. Using this imagery of a triumphal march found in Psalm 68, Paul describes the victorious and risen Christ, ascending into Heaven bringing with Him the host of those formally held in sin’s captivity but now freed by His grace. This victorious Christ gives gifts to all the great host of believers. These spiritual gifts are used to equip and build up the church.

Lord Jesus, bowing before my victorious King, I submit to Your rule in my life. I will use Your gifts to worship and honor You and to share with others Your grace.
