Saved: Redemption
Ephesians 2:8a & Romans 6:17b-18a
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“For by grace you have been saved through faith” & “Though you were slaves of sin . . . having been freed from sin” Ephesians 2:8a & Romans 6:17b-18a NASB
Redemption, a word that is often associated with salvation, is a concept that is related to the slave market. It is the process where a slave is legally freed by paying the purchase price. Relating to salvation, all unredeemed people are slaves to sin. In John 8:34 Jesus said that everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. By His atoning substitutional sacrifice on the cross, Jesus paid the ransom for our sin. Through faith a person accepts God’s gift of grace and is redeemed, set free from the slavery of sin.
Lord Jesus, I give You praise for You have redeemed me from the penalty of sin, You are redeeming me from the power of sin, and You will redeem me from the presence of sin.
