Rich in Mercy
Ephesians 2:4b

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,” Ephesians 2:4 NASB

While God by nature and character is just, holy, and righteous, He is also merciful, gracious, and loving. It is God’s boundless mercy that caused Him to pity helpless and hopeless sinners. God’s deep love motivated Him to be merciful even though sinners could do nothing to deserve or merit His kindness and compassion. God mercifully acted to provide an atoning sacrifice through Jesus’ death on Calvary’s cross. Jesus suffered as the substitute, the propitiation, that appeased God’s wrath on sin and satisfied His justice.

Lord God, I do not deserve Your mercy, yet You graciously acted. Now I have a right relationship with You through faith in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on the cross.
