Without Hope
Ephesians 2:12b
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.” Ephesians 2:12 CSB
In the third of five descriptive statements about the Gentiles’ spiritual condition before they placed their faith in God’s grace, Paul stated that the Gentiles had no special covenant promise or relationship with the compassionate God. The Jews held a special place in God’s promises through the Abrahamic and Davidic covenants. Fourth, the Gentiles had no real hope for the future and eternity. Fifth, though they were religious, they were without any real understanding of the one true Holy God.
Lord Jesus, formerly I was separated from God. But by grace through faith in You, I now have glorious hope and an eternal relationship with God.
