The First Payment
Ephesians 1:14

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“You were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13b-14 NASB

The Holy Spirit not only seals the believer, but He is also the pledge, earnest, down payment, first installment of our future inheritance. The Holy Spirit dwelling in the believer is God’s pledge of our final redemption in Christ which includes eternal life and heaven. God has redeemed us and made us His possession for the purpose of bringing glory and praise to Himself. His great glory is revealed by how He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing.

Lord God, I am humbled that Your Holy Spirit abides in me as Your first installment of eternal life. I give You glory and praise by living a life that honors You.
