His Purpose
Ephesians 1:11

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“We have also received an inheritance in Him, predestined according to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the decision of His will,” Ephesians 1:11 HCSB

Bible scholars have long held various opinions and different nuances on the interpretation of this verse. Was Paul narrowing his focus just to the Jewish believers, or was he still referring to all believers, both Jews and Gentiles? Were the believers God’s chosen inheritance like the Jewish people, or were the believers going to receive the inheritance of heaven? One of the themes of the letter to Ephesians is that God’s purpose and plan of redemption included both Jews and Gentiles, bringing both into one body in Christ.

Lord Jesus, what an amazing plan You created to redeem people from all nations into the unified body in the church. Work in me to do Your will.
