“Dear friend, you are showing your faith by whatever you do for the brothers, and this you are doing for strangers.” 3 John 5 HCSB

John for the third time calls Gaius his dear friend. He commends Gaius for being faithful to Jesus by caring for other Christians, even those he did not know. It seems Gaius had the gift of hospitality. He routinely opened his home to feed, house, and care for traveling preachers. While in his second letter, John warned that believers should not show hospitality to false teachers, John encourages hospitality among true believers in the third letter . One’s faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord must translate into actions that show faith.

Lord Jesus, thank You for those fellow believers who have shown me hospitality. Help me to put my faith in action by lovingly caring for other believers.
