“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment.” 2 Peter 2:4 NASB
The false teachers thought that they would get away with their lies, yet God has judged them and they will face punishment. Peter lays out three illustrations of God’s judgment in the past as proof that judgment will be exacted in the future. The first example was that of rebellious angels. These heavenly creatures sinned and God judged them. They were thrown into the utter darkness of hell. If God judged and punished these rebellious angels, then He will judge and punish people who do evil, including those who try to destroy the church with false teaching.
Lord Jesus, even though evil is ever increasing in this day, I know judgment is coming. Help me to warn those facing judgment of their need for repentance.
