“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith . . . and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.” 2 Peter 1:5, 7 NIV
Completing his list of qualities and characteristics of a godly and holy life which believers must strive with all diligence and effort to nurture and grow, Peter adds kindness and love. Kindness here is a brotherly affection or brotherly love that expresses concern and caring for one’s physical family and for the expanded family of all believers. Love is self-sacrificing love that seeks the best for others. This agape love is demonstrated by God providing His Son to be the sacrifice for our sins.
Lord Jesus, help me to express my concern and compassion for others by the way I treat them. Let others see You in me by filling my life with Your mercy, grace, and love.
