“And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-- not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience-- through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 3:21 NASB
Baptism, coming from the Greek word baptisma and the root word baptizo, literally means to dip, to plunge under, or to sink. Baptism occurs by dipping or plunging a believer under the water. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and pictures the individual’s death and burial of the sinful, old way of life and being raised to live a new life in Christ. Salvation comes not from the waters of baptism but only through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the forgiveness of sin and eternal life You provide through Your death and resurrection. Help me to live this new life in a way that honors and glorifies You.
