“For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18 NASB

Christ was the ultimate example for the believers who were suffering and being persecuted for their belief. Christ, who did no wrong, suffered unjustly. He was persecuted, tortured, and put to death unjustly. Christ’s suffering was unique in that His suffering paid the price for sin and brought us to God. Though His suffering was different, it gave comfort and strength to the suffering believers. Knowing what Christ suffered for them, they could endure being persecuted for the faith.

Lord Jesus, I am awestruck and amazed at how You suffered for me and for all who would believe. Remembering Your suffering helps me to endure the present and to find hope and assurance for the future.
