“But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” 1 Peter 3:15 NASB
Knowing that the believers were facing persecution because of their faith, Peter implores them to defend the faith. Believers must be ready to share their faith with anyone at any moment. They must be able to speak of the hope they have in Christ, of the sacrifice that Jesus made to provide salvation, and of the change He made in their lives. In order to give this kind of witness, their lives must be sanctified, set apart, and given wholly to the Lord. Believers are to give this defense of the faith with kindness and respect that brings glory and honor to the Lord.
Lord Jesus, help me to stand firm in my faith in the midst of an ever growing hostile world. Let me boldly stand for the faith, giving an account of what You have done for me and for all who will believe.
