“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12 NIV

Continuing the quote from Psalm 34, Peter describes the Lord’s reaction to the righteous and to those who do evil. God sees and hears those who are righteous in their time of need and especially as they face persecution and suffer for their faith. God shows His providential care and attentiveness by watching over and providing for the needs of His people. In contrast, God will judge and punish the wicked. In a descriptive way, the psalmist portrays God’s face with an expression of harsh judgment against those who do evil.

Lord Jesus, it is comforting to know that You are watching over me and all who trust in You. As I face the difficulties of this day, let me be aware of Your presence, mercy, and grace.
