“In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.” 1 Peter 3:1-2 NASB
Continuing his discussion about Christlike relationships, Peter writes that wives should voluntarily submit to their husbands. The word “submission” is a military term related to placing oneself under a higher ranked solider. For the wife this is not slavery but rather a demonstration of unselfish affection and respect for her husband. By her purity and love for her husband, particularly an unbelieving husband, she gives a silent witness of what Christ has done for her. By her obedience to God, she may win her disobedient husband to faith in the Lord.
Lord Jesus, help me to live in a way that others would see the difference You make in my life. Let my faith and obedience to You be an example of Your love and grace.
