“For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.” 1 Peter 2:21 NASB
Jesus is the example for all believers to follow. The Greek word for “example” was the same word used to describe how children were taught to write their letters by tracing over the “example.” That same idea would mean that believers would “trace over” the life of Jesus, using Him as the example for their lives. In context, believers should endure suffering for doing right in the same way that Jesus endured. With Jesus as the example, believers should “follow in His steps” by walking in the same manner as He walked through the trials and suffering of life.
Lord Jesus, teach me to endure the suffering that sometimes comes when I do what is right. Help me to walk each day in a way that brings glory and honor to You by following Your example.
