“For you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:9 NIV

The ultimate goal or result of faith in Jesus as one’s personal Savior and Lord is salvation of one’s soul. The Hebrew view of the word “soul” is the complete person. It is not some abstract part separate from the physical body. Thus, the whole person is saved by faith. This salvation carries the idea of being saved from the penalty, power, and presence of sin. The penalty of sin was paid by the death of Jesus on the cross. The power of sin is being broken as the believer allows the Spirit to control one’s life. The presence of sin ultimately will be done away with when the believer is with God in heaven.

Lord Jesus, I am thankful to You for paying the penalty for my sin by Your death on the cross. Help me to show others how they can have salvation for their souls through faith in You.
