“We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the One who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.” 1 John 5:18 HCSB

We instinctively know that the believer does not continue to live in sin. Those who have been born of God do not have a lifestyle of habitually sinning. While the believer may commit an act of sin, it is utterly impossible for one born of God to continually act contrary to his true nature as a child of God because Jesus Christ keeps him. The word “keeps” carries the idea of perseverance and protection. It is Jesus who guards the believer from falling into the trap set by Satan. Jesus does not allow evil from grabbing hold and permanently harming the believer.

Lord Jesus, I am thankful that You watch over me and keep me from being snared by evil. Help me to live this day in a way that pleases You.
