"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" 1 John 3:17 NIV

Real love moves a believer to help other believers in need. In this verse we find a believer who has material possessions, the things needed to sustain life. He then sees, not a quick glance, but a lingering, contemplative, observant consideration of another believer who does not have what he needs to live. If he turns away, deliberately neglecting the need, showing no pity or compassion for the believer, then he is demonstrating a lack of God’s love in his life. God’s love motivates a believer to help those in need.

Lord Jesus, fill my life with love that acts to help others in need. Let Your great love flow through me to touch others.
