“We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.” 1 John 3:14 HCSB

We can know with certainty, beyond any doubt, that we have eternal life. The phrase “have passed” is a Greek verb meaning the past act of migrating from one country to another country, and the results continue into the present. Thus, the believer has permanently moved from the state of death into eternal life. The love one has for other believers is evidence that this action has taken place. Eternal life with Jesus results in an attitude of love for other believers. Some believers may make it difficult to show love to them because of their actions, but love is a fundamental motivation for a believer.

Lord Jesus, I am grateful for the life I now have in You. Help my actions to overflow with Your love for others.
