“As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.” 1 John 2:24 NASB
In sharp contrast to the false teachers and heretics, the true believers were to hold on to the beliefs that they first heard. The true believers were not to be swayed by the “new knowledge” and “new teachings” being told to them. They were to stand firm, having confidence in what they had first heard. The believers had heard the true gospel about how Jesus died to pay for their sins and how He rose the third day to give them eternal life. They were to continue to trust in Jesus alone for their salvation.
Lord Jesus, I trust in You for my salvation and in the Bible, for eternal truths. In spite of what the popular teachings suggest, help me to stand firm on Your Word.
