“And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 NASB
One can interpret the statement, “God is light,” in a number of ways. First, God’s great glory and majesty are often displayed as bright light. Second, God is morally perfect. (The context of this verse tends to imply this interpretation.) God’s holiness, goodness, and purity are symbolized as light in opposition to the darkness of sin. Third, God is revealing Himself just as light reveals the unknown. Fourth, God is our guide to light our path through life. Fifth, God is our source of life just as sunlight provides the energy for life. God is light!
Lord Jesus, You command Your followers to be holy and perfect just as You are. Help me to reflect Your great light in my life this day.
