“He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.” 1 Chronicles 17:12-14 NASB

While Saul had turned away from the Lord and thus God had removed him and his house from the throne, David loved God, and God blessed him with His faithful love and mercy. Therefore David’s descendants would sit on the throne. It would be his son, Solomon, who would build the Temple. The kings of Judah would all be from the Davidic line. A descendant of David would be The Messiah, the Eternal King, who will reign forever.

Lord Jesus, You are the Messiah, the Christ, whose kingdom is forever. Rule and reign in my life this day, my Savior and King.
