“When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, ‘Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the LORD's covenant is under tent curtains.’” 1 Chronicles 17:1 HCSB

This chapter is key to understanding the message of the Chronicles. David plans to glorify God by building a house, a temple for God, while God had far greater and eternal plans to build David’s house, his dynasty. One of David’s descendants would be the Messiah who would sit on His throne forever. The narrative begins with David sitting in his lavish house of cedar, surrounded by its beauty and comforts. David bemoaned that the Lord's ark of the covenant sat in a simple, lowly tent.

Lord Jesus, You have wondrously blessed me with life and redemption. I yearn to give You praise, glory, and honor.
