Death and Decay
Psalm 16:10
The Upward Look
by Max D. Hutto,
“For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.” Psalm 16:10 NASB
Facing a life-threatening situation, David had great confidence in the Lord. He trusted at that time God would not allow him to die and decay, to be abandoned in Sheol, the place of the dead. He believed that the Lord would protect his life. Yet even when death would come, he believed that he would be with God forever (verse 11). In a greater prophetic meaning, both Peter and Paul used this verse to describe the Holy One, Jesus, His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus arose from death to live forevermore.
Lord Jesus, because of Your death, burial, and resurrection, I have hope. Death has lost its sting. By Your grace through faith, I am confident that I will spend eternity with You.
