“For Thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of Thy wings I sing for joy.” Psalm 63:7 NASB

Even with trouble all around him, David takes comfort in remembering that God has helped him in the past and will continue to help him in the present and future. David also takes comfort in knowing that he is in the presence of God. The phrase, “the shadow of Thy wings,” alludes to being in God’s presence and care. This allusion can be either of two illustrations, being in the shadow of the Ark of the Covenant with its covering of angels with outstretched wings, or being in the shadow of the eagle with its wings over its young. God’s presence, protection, and comfort caused David to sing for joy.

Lord Jesus, I am grateful for Your help, presence, protection, and comfort. I lift up my voice in praise, rejoicing in the peace You provide even in the midst of troubled times.
