Not Deeds But Faithful Relationship

“Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.'” Matthew 7:22-23 NASB

Jesus continues describing false prophets by declaring that doing religious deeds does not demonstrate true faith. Just like saying religious words does not prove a righteous heart, doing religious deeds does not provide evidence of a personal relationship with the Father that comes through faith in the Son. There are many people who do good deeds but who do not know Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Lord Jesus, I come before You not because of my good deeds, but because of my trust and faith in Your gracious salvation. I do good deeds simply to be faithful in my relationship with You.
