Praying To Be Noticed
Matthew 6:5

“And when you pray, you are not to be as the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, in order to be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.” Matthew 6:5 NASB

Jesus continues warning the righteous person not to do righteous things just to be noticed by others. Prayer is an important part of worshiping God and developing a deep relationship with God. However, the hypocrites were play acting at worshiping God. Their intent was to put on a show that would be seen by others. They made a point to be in a public place when it was time to pray. They wanted recognition for being “religious,” and that is all the reward they would receive.

Lord Jesus, help me not to be prideful by seeking the recognition of others. Let my prayers be true praise to You and total surrender to Your will.
