Government Decrees
Luke 2:1

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.” Luke 2:1 NASB

With Caesar ruling over the Roman empire, everyone under his reign was obligated to obey whether they liked his law or not. His decrees often disrupted the ordinary day to day life. It is easy to imagine that the people in Galilee and Judea were more concerned about the decrees of Caesar than they were about a young couple expecting a child or even the coming of the Savior. Even today it is easy to be preoccupied and overwhelmed by government and news headlines causing us miss what God is doing.

Lord Jesus, even in the hustle and bustle of this world, help me to stop and worship You, spending time in Your Word, the Bible, and in prayer. Keep my focus this Christmas season on You, my Savior.
