“His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.” Luke 1:50 NIV

God’s great mercy is the next thought in Mary’s song of praise. Mercy describes God’s great loving-kindness toward those who fear and reverence Him. God demonstrates this mercy by providing salvation to all people across the centuries who will trust in His Son, Jesus. Though we deserve eternal torment and death because of our sin, God in His mercy provides an atonement for our sin through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross.

Lord God, as I celebrate the birth of Jesus let me be mindful of Your great mercy that provides salvation to all who believe. Jesus, born to be our Savior.
