Sanctified and Cleansed
Ephesians 5:26

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,” Ephesians 5:25b-26 NASB

Propelled by His great love, Christ gave His life on Calvary’s cross for the church, the body of believers who have placed their personal faith, their complete trust and commitment in Jesus. He gave His life to sanctify, to set apart, to make holy, the church. He has made her clean by His sacrificial shedding of His blood. One interpretation of “the washing of water with the word” is that it is the public confession of faith in Christ that is made as part of the baptism celebration.

Lord Jesus, it is Your sacrifice on the cross that cleanses me, sanctifies me, and gives me life. May my life, my words, deeds, and character, express my faith in You.
