Spirit Filled
Ephesians 5:18

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,” Ephesians 5:18 ESV

What consumes and controls your life? Is it the worldly nature symbolized by being drunk with wine? Or is it the spiritual nature that is controlled and guided by the Holy Spirit? The ancient city of Ephesus was known for its worship of Bacchus with its immorality fueled by wine and drunken orgies. Paul was reminding the Ephesian believers to put away the old sinful worldly ways. Instead, the believers were to be guided and under the control of God’s Holy Spirit, walking in a manner worthy of Christ, living wisely in faithful obedience.

Lord Jesus, may my life be fueled and directed by You and Your Word, the Bible. I yield my life daily to be filled, empowered, and controlled by the Holy Spirit.
