To Equip for Ministry
Ephesians 4:12a

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” Ephesians 4:12 ESV

The purpose of the gifted spiritual leaders of the church, i.e., evangelists and pastor-teachers, is to equip other believers to carry out the ministry of the church. The word translated “equip” can also mean to prepare, mend, repair, and restore to its intended purpose. Therefore a pastor is to prepare, guide, and instruct his flock, the local church, so that every believer lives daily for Christ, while serving other believers and nonbelievers through loving care and concern and righteous living.

Lord Jesus, thank You for gifted pastors. Give them boldness, strength, and steadfastness to faithfully teach Your Word and to equip other believers in carrying out Your work of ministry.
