The World
Ephesians 2:2b

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.” Ephesians 2:2 NIV

The first of three forces that influence and drive a person’s sinful lifestyle is the ways of the world. This force refers to the cultural and societal patterns that guide and shape one’s lifestyle. It is the natural world order that is both subtly and vehemently opposed to God. Driven by humanism and self-centered desires, the world’s value system is by nature debased, ungodly, and rebelliously disobedient against God. Paul declares that the believers formerly lived under the influence of the world.

Lord Jesus, help me to refute and repulse the strong influence of society and culture in my life. As I rely on Your strength, help me glorify You in my lifestyle.
