To Know Him
Ephesians 1:17c

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Ephesians 1:17 NIV

Paul prayed that the Ephesian believers would know God better. They already had knowledge of Him through a saving personal relationship. In this prayer for an ongoing deepening relationship, the believer increasingly yearns to know God in an ever growing personal and intimate fashion. The psalmist (42:1) compared this yearning to a running deer panting for water. This yearning for a deeper understanding of God’s nature and character leads to an ever growing obedient and sanctified life of holiness.

Lord Jesus, I thirst to know You, not just the Biblical facts and truths but Your character and ways. Guide me by Your Spirit to live obediently honoring You.
