“Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 2 NASB

John prays for his dear friend. He wishes that all things would go well for Gaius. This wish includes a common greeting of the day for prosperity and good health. We cannot be certain of Gaius’ physical health, but we can be sure that his spiritual life was excellent and prospering. While physical health is good, spiritual health is more important. One may be prospering and in fine shape physically but still be poor spiritually. The reverse is also true. One can be doing well spiritually yet poor physically. John shows that believers can and should pray for others to prosper both physically and spiritually.

Lord Jesus, I am glad that You care for our every need both physical and spiritual. Help me to pray for others and to express my concern and care to them.
