“They will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.” 1 Peter 4:5 HCSB

Peter reminds the believers, who faced intensifying harassment and persecution for their faith, that the ungodly will one day stand before God and be judged for their actions. Facing this overwhelming persecution with no foreseeable way to escape, the believers could find hope in knowing that the wrongs will be judged. To “give an account” is a courtroom term where the ungodly will be held accountable before the judge for their actions. On that final day of judgment, all people, the living and the dead, will be judged by the righteous and holy One.

Lord Jesus, I find comfort in knowing that wrongs will be judged one day and that my sins are forgiven and cleansed by Your blood shed on Calvary’s cross. Help me to share with others how their sins can be forgiven by grace through faith.
